Promoting Wellness in the Workplace

Picture
What is Yoga?
The word Yoga means Union.  The goal of Yoga is to unite body, mind and spirit, restoring wholeness and inner balance.

Hatha Yoga is the Yoga of Bodily Mastery and focuses on the following practices to bring about physical, mental and emotional integration and well-being.

Asana — Physical Postures
Pranayama — Breath Awareness and Regulation of Prana (Lifeforce)
Pratyahara - Sense Withdrawal/Deep Relaxation

Benefits of Yoga in the Workplace
  • Hatha Yoga develops posture, balance and co-ordination, flexibility and muscle strength.  It works internally to tone organs and glands, improving the function of all the major systems of the body.  Hatha Yoga practice also promotes inner harmony, focus, and concentration
  • Yoga in the Workplace reduces stress levels and results in happier and more motivated employees and reduced absenteeism
  • Reduces levels of stress induced illness such as heart disease and hypertension
  • Employees develop body awareness and better postural habits, reinforcing correct OHS practices
  • Improved productivity and customer service

Teacher Profile

I attended my first Yoga class at the age of sixteen, and since that time Yoga has become an integral part of my life.  I have studied Yoga with many different teachers, who each had their own unique approach to the practice of Yoga.  I completed a 12 month Teacher Training Course with Friends in Yoga (FinY) Inc in 1995. I was an instructor on the FinY Teacher Training Course, and Course Coordinator for 10 years.  I offer regular classes in the classical Hatha Yoga style, focusing on the development of inner well being through the practice of breathwork, postures (Asanas) and relaxation techniques.  Classes are suitable for all practitioners, regardless of fitness level or previous experience.
